Maureen was first elected President of the Rosary Society in 2023. She is a natural leader, with her welcoming spirit and buoyant sense of humor, and she has made it a priority to help make this ministry a vital part of the parish by increasing membership and organizing spiritual events for all members of the parish. Maureen is a 3rd generation member of BMT, with family ties going back before 1920. Both her maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents--who immigrated from Ireland--chose to settle down on 14th street. Maureen’s faith is the priority in her life that sustains her through all of life’s ups and downs. She is committed to growing the Rosary Society through prayer and action for all women of the parish. Maureen’s interests are centered around her friends in the church and spending time with family.
Barbara was also reelected this year, a position she has held since 2022. She spent 47 years in service to the city as an RN at Bayonne Hospital, where she met a fellow nurse who would later encourage her to join her as a Rosarian. Together they embarked on a faith journey that followed in the footsteps of Barbara's mother, who was a lifelong Rosarian devoted to Our Lady. She was prompted by the Holy Spirit to buy a house with a cherished view of St. Andrew's Church 45 years ago, becoming a parishioner of St. Andrew's/BMT in the 1990's after many happy years at Mount Carmel. Barbara adores praying the Rosary, confident in and grateful for the Blessed Mother's intercession with her Son on our behalf. She can very often be found leading a group in a Rosary following the daily 9am Mass at St. Mary's Church.
Mary Sue continues her first term as treasurer, and she is perfect for this role. A retired math teacher, she is scrupulous in managing the society's finances. Mary Sue is a lifelong Bayonne resident and St. Mary's/BMT parishioner with a vibrant network of friends and family in our community, thanks in part to her dedicated career at Robinson School. Her mother had always encouraged her to join the Rosary Society, and once she retired she knew it was time. Mary Sue has always had a special relationship with the Blessed Mother, having been named for and dedicated to Her upon Baptism.
One of the newest members of the Rosary Society, Amy brings a new energy and fondness for technology to her role as secretary. A now-retired veterinarian who grew up on East 14th Street, she felt called to become more active in the parish community and hopes to attract more young women to the society by leveling up communications. Amy learned about the power of the Rosary through the devotion she saw from her mother, grandmother, and aunts, and she hopes to pass this special love on to her goddaughters, nephew, and great-nephew. She considers her patron saints to be St. Francis of Assisi and St. Dymphna.
Dana also begins her first year as a board member, but she has been an energetic member of the Rosary Society for years. She is known for her bright smile and infectious laugh. More details to come!
